Boo. Anyways, here's my completed quilt top for the celestial stars quilt along final linkup!<br />

<br />
I LOVE this quilt, and I am so glad it is MINE, all MINE!!<br />
<br />
I had gotten Diane's amazing pattern, but hadn't decided what sort of color scheme or anything I was going to go with. Then, it hit me. I had a Tula Pink Fox Field fat quarter bundle sitting in my stash just BEGGING to be used for this! Pretty sure I made a good choice :)<br />
<br />
I didn't want a single solid background, and thought a secondary pattern in the background would look cool, so I combined Kona Ash and Bella White (don't remember which one!).<br />
<br />
Here are close-ups of each of the 24" blocks:<br />

I haven't had a chance to baste or quilt this beast yet as I need some backing for it, and other projects require some attention first :P Maybe by the end of the year if I'm lucky!!<br />

Thank you so much Diane for an AMAZING pattern that I WILL be using again, and a super fun quilt along!!Kirstenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11844893008898885370noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6064077039636308847.post-46690707824431998632014-10-02T21:53:00.002-07:002014-10-02T22:47:42.863-07:00Celestial Stars – Final Linkup – 24” Mini QuiltHere’s my very first celestial star block I made! It was kind of my practice
run before I started the blocks for my actual quilt. It definitely taught me a
few things to be more careful with and aware of on my other blocks!! I turned
this one into a mini quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRza9-0IUL7GYt6OQlgSH1xNGq1c47UCHO14VG8R9OrYC0nJcPwVCXDsB5jU9wxKIfnsqWc17GhGDoPgK3U4isJSrV3PgNZMIxtCXc03J_e5p5WJxhM1Op_w7LFeyfzWXKMxIXmtfl-_o/s1600/IMG_2567.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRza9-0IUL7GYt6OQlgSH1xNGq1c47UCHO14VG8R9OrYC0nJcPwVCXDsB5jU9wxKIfnsqWc17GhGDoPgK3U4isJSrV3PgNZMIxtCXc03J_e5p5WJxhM1Op_w7LFeyfzWXKMxIXmtfl-_o/s1600/IMG_2567.jpg" height="630" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I went all out quilting this one; thread changes at every color, lots of fancy
shmancy-ness (yes, it’s a word ;) ). I’m pretty sure I put more thread in this
24” square than I do into most regular baby quilts! By the way, it was a great
practice for my FMQ, which NEEDS lots of practice :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglCTccIhrGH1n2b14fHUqZDxwJZ_Pn7MwaW9LXC6ktYEEhebqPInxAdy17yEfOiHC6A8gGIvr6HFeGA7PXfyC0UBRrBRgmNcbCdKzM_6SIVg797a06MfXZJZMrUYiIAicGMXP9UA_bw6w/s1600/IMG_2569.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglCTccIhrGH1n2b14fHUqZDxwJZ_Pn7MwaW9LXC6ktYEEhebqPInxAdy17yEfOiHC6A8gGIvr6HFeGA7PXfyC0UBRrBRgmNcbCdKzM_6SIVg797a06MfXZJZMrUYiIAicGMXP9UA_bw6w/s1600/IMG_2569.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I did leave the bobbin white the whole time though, so this shot of the back
shows the quilting pretty well. I used a pink on pink ta dot for the back.<br />
<br />

<br />
I love this little mini!! It may or may not be winging its way to a new home
soon ;)<br />

This is a custom job for a friend, and it got to go on a road trip to Payson, AZ for fun pictures while we playing in the (FREEZING COLD) creek. Though we were REALLY up there to be labor for my grandparents over Memorial day weekend :)</p> <p>Here is the gorgeous quilt!</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Ji-yT9u0T9w/UbIVD-13R8I/AAAAAAAACAw/D7ZWm_qmolc/s1600-h/DPP_04735.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="DPP_0473" border="0" alt="DPP_0473" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-TT3tl4Ux5L0/UbIVEn2OgKI/AAAAAAAACA4/OybPWnYnqF4/DPP_0473_thumb2.jpg?imgmax=800" width="494" height="346"></a></p> <p>Plus my photobombing cousin in the background :)</p> <p>I decided that the bundle of Alexander Henry fabrics my friend provided were begging to be paired with some solids and made into my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/71916521/pdf-pattern-toss-up-quilt?ref=shop_home_feat" target="_blank">Toss Up pattern</a>. It showcases the larger prints so well, and comes together SO fast.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-KGiTQ_0d18g/UbIVF1Kz_7I/AAAAAAAACBA/k2SkpL8hhbU/s1600-h/DPP_04825.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="DPP_0482" border="0" alt="DPP_0482" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-pBJLDKLWyJ8/UbIVGiUHgLI/AAAAAAAACBI/i9nawqCGn94/DPP_0482_thumb2.jpg?imgmax=800" width="490" height="343"></a></p> <p>I had so much fun quilting this one, too! I used a different free motion pattern in each part of each block, and I really couldn’t be happier with it. </p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-q81XUOGF8hM/UbIVHkgBpBI/AAAAAAAACBQ/ZiYpjNCKpXU/s1600-h/DPP_04835.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="DPP_0483" border="0" alt="DPP_0483" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-Z6Pa-lA1D5E/UbIVICzofsI/AAAAAAAACBY/ORL94VDjAps/DPP_0483_thumb2.jpg?imgmax=800" width="484" height="339"></a></p> <p>The back is a pretty pink print, not sure what it was though. Seriously in love with that quilting. </p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-hVP8cP5Sc2w/UbIVI5PUoMI/AAAAAAAACBg/7McNz11KenA/s1600-h/DPP_04725.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="DPP_0472" border="0" alt="DPP_0472" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-XevZCbw_drs/UbIVJqQuh1I/AAAAAAAACBo/BZuOdE3FeuM/DPP_0472_thumb2.jpg?imgmax=800" width="422" height="663"></a></p> <p>And one more shot of the entire front. I had a wonderful quilt holder to help me with this quilt; he’s so awesome!</p> <p>This lovely quilt will soon be winging its way across the country to its new home.</p> <p>Oh, and a quick shot of us in the FREEZING COLD water:</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-c3zU6nd2omQ/UbIVK6TmzHI/AAAAAAAACBw/7iZLteM37bc/s1600-h/DPP_0456%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="DPP_0456" border="0" alt="DPP_0456" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-rNy1scfaoCE/UbIVLk_Vw2I/AAAAAAAACB4/ujhCwCqJSWI/DPP_0456_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="478" height="336"></a></p> <p>PS- we were in the freezing cold water because when I was a kid, I would go stay with my grandparents for the summer, and when we would drive across the river crossings, my grandpa would let me hop out of the car and walk in the water next to the car. What more could a kid ask for?? I have an awesome grandpa. So now when we go visit, we go with grandpa and my kids, so he can walk in the water with his great grandbabies :)</p> Kirstenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11844893008898885370noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6064077039636308847.post-22604256087521527082013-04-22T08:30:00.000-07:002013-04-22T08:30:02.034-07:00Quilt Pattern Giveaway!!<p>Hey! Framed Rails<p>I finally finished a pattern that I started writing a year ago! I really have no excuse for not finishing it before now, except that I just finished my cover quilt and got it photographed two weeks ago :)</p> <p>Without further ado, meet my new pattern, <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/129819103/pdf-pattern-framed-rails-confident?ref=shop_home_active" target="_blank">Framed Rails</a>!</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-0aEUZbDdPVc/UXF10w9tQ4I/AAAAAAAAB_M/F7mcSpNqebY/s1600-h/Framed%252520Rails%252520Cover%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Framed Rails Cover" border="0" alt="Framed Rails Cover" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-H1NTPTSqZnU/UXF11mJ6lYI/AAAAAAAAB_U/SEGC6tpHdY0/Framed%252520Rails%252520Cover_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="404" height="656"></a></p> <p>This pattern gives step by step cutting and sewing instructions for THREE quilts sizes: baby, throw, and twin. (A first for me!) It is also Honey Bun (precut 1 1/2” strips) friendly, though there seem to be fewer of those around now. But if you have one sitting around that you haven’t figured out what to do with yet, this is a great pattern!</p> <p>I have made a few other quilts with this pattern <a href="http://maniacalmaterialgirls.blogspot.com/2012/02/working-backwards.html#.UXFzmqI3uS8" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://maniacalmaterialgirls.blogspot.com/2012/04/friday-monday-pretty-close-right.html#.UXFzUqI3uS8" target="_blank">here</a>. In fact, I made <a href="http://maniacalmaterialgirls.blogspot.com/2012/04/friday-monday-pretty-close-right.html#.UXFzUqI3uS8" target="_blank">this one</a> to be my cover quilt, but once it was done I felt it wasn’t quite right for it. Too much white, not enough contrast. So I started this one!</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-6vDo_MUOQJw/UXF12beXHsI/AAAAAAAAB_c/PdfIwQtVy0k/s1600-h/IMG_7410%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_7410" border="0" alt="IMG_7410" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-W3KFqskyu9g/UXF13byTq6I/AAAAAAAAB_k/TygC2auz3U0/IMG_7410_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="469" height="604"></a></p> <p>I made the top – minus the border and one fabric – from scraps from Jocelyn’s quilt. Which I just realized I still haven’t posted…So this pattern works great for scraps and teeny bits of yardage that you are left with sometimes!</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-p9wqC5MDQ90/UXF14fmRxpI/AAAAAAAAB_s/LuhWUd9qWbc/s1600-h/IMG_7405%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_7405" border="0" alt="IMG_7405" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-pWz9-FQFd2Y/UXF141Pq9eI/AAAAAAAAB_0/21xhC8WUmB8/IMG_7405_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="485" height="340"></a></p> <p>I also just realized that my two cover photos are the only decent pictures I got in this shoot…SO, guess I need to try again before I put this quilt up in my shop! Yep, this one will be available for purchase :)</p> <p>Once I get some more pictures, I will tell more about this particular quilt, but in the meantime, if you want to make your own, my pattern is now available <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/materialgirlkirsten?ref=si_shop" target="_blank">in the shop!</a> And even better, Etsy now has made instant download for digital items available, so you can get this pattern RIGHT AWAY! You don’t even have to wait for me to email it!(Not that that took very long, but instant is always nice :) ) And come back on Monday, because I will be hosting a giveaway!!!</p> Kirstenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11844893008898885370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6064077039636308847.post-36701094016938525262013-04-18T10:05:00.001-07:002013-04-18T10:05:59.928-07:00A Much-Needed Update<p>Guess what? I have been busy busy, and I have updated my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/71916521/pdf-pattern-toss-up-quilt?ref=shop_home_feat" target="_blank">Toss Up pattern</a>! The content is the same except for one diagram edit, but it’s prettier now :) I have been meaning to make this change for a year, but I never got around to sitting down and doing it. I’m such a slacker. So here’s the new look!</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-2HPGOBqNwEU/UXAn7s0V83I/AAAAAAAAB-k/5QvC4DNWkI0/s1600-h/Toss%252520Up%252520Cover%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="Toss Up Cover" border="0" alt="Toss Up Cover" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-Dgz6lma8Rnc/UXAn8LOl1OI/AAAAAAAAB-s/coAphkKk_j4/Toss%252520Up%252520Cover_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="343" height="549"></a></p> <p>And I might have finally tied myself to the computer long enough to finish another pattern last night, too.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-4Tec8wnGkxs/UXAn89hViDI/AAAAAAAAB-0/MtLewQAaGwk/s1600-h/IMG_20130417_230744%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_20130417_230744" border="0" alt="IMG_20130417_230744" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-3NSrCRWTEVo/UXAn9i8Gu-I/AAAAAAAAB-8/8bGkWkHRl7k/IMG_20130417_230744_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="310" height="426"></a></p> <p align="center"><font size="1">Late night Instagram photo</font></p> <p><font size="1"></font> </p> <p>Luckily, the writing was done on that one, I just had to finish making it look pretty. That one will be available as soon as my editor(aka MOM) has a chance to check my formatting for me :)</p> Kirstenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11844893008898885370noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6064077039636308847.post-53078051852087331352013-04-11T12:38:00.001-07:002013-04-11T12:38:59.458-07:00Another AWESOME Custom Herringbone Quilt<p>My lovely friend Julie sent me some fabric to make a quilt for her. First she said she wanted something with triangles, but then she saw <a href="http://maniacalmaterialgirls.blogspot.com/2012/09/a-finished-custom-job.html#.UWcQS6I3uS8" target="_blank">my other herringbone quilt</a>, and changed her mind :) </p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/--fZ8mpTHHCc/UWcRJoHuAtI/AAAAAAAAB8c/Hv7bPfvGyoQ/s1600-h/IMG_7382%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_7382" border="0" alt="IMG_7382" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-MvoXgLu71TE/UWcRKI3bvNI/AAAAAAAAB8k/Ga_0AHHqIFs/IMG_7382_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="348" height="537"></a></p> <p>Thus, this gorgeousness was born! Really, how can you go wrong when you get to play with Amy Butler fabric? If you follow me on instagram, you got to see some of the process on this quilt, including a <a href="http://instagram.com/p/WXOzxegubN/" target="_blank">little helper “helping” at the design wall</a>….</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-tJSTsWr9IKk/UWcRLbAnrcI/AAAAAAAAB8s/jbJ2SuH4AL0/s1600-h/IMG_7390%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_7390" border="0" alt="IMG_7390" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-2VIE9c4JJfc/UWcRLwYybCI/AAAAAAAAB80/L15lyE7ikrE/IMG_7390_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="484" height="339"></a></p> <p>I had fun with the quilting on this one, too. Going to QuiltCon definitely made me want to try harder to make my quilting as fabulous as the other parts of my quilts. So, I quilted 1/4” to each side of the horizontal seams to make a chevron look, then on most of the quilt I added another line of quilting one inch into each chevron. However, on a few of them, I added some fun free motion patterns instead.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-EgnboNqALBU/UWcRMqhtmLI/AAAAAAAAB88/HtPl5jPXLuo/s1600-h/IMG_7393%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_7393" border="0" alt="IMG_7393" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-CmXDj9cRfKU/UWcRNNu6nqI/AAAAAAAAB9E/zQ_aEJQjKww/IMG_7393_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="483" height="338"></a><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-Zdatuj0XWow/UWcRN73s9ZI/AAAAAAAAB9M/TC48wZaP9Tc/s1600-h/IMG_7394%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_7394" border="0" alt="IMG_7394" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-dt1ykS6OCsQ/UWcROyVIpEI/AAAAAAAAB9U/x-zrAf82xJM/IMG_7394_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="487" height="341"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Dyl6EqDkc50/UWcRPViAdoI/AAAAAAAAB9c/M9DMM3QWi4c/s1600-h/IMG_7395%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_7395" border="0" alt="IMG_7395" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-KhsPtZDcuRM/UWcRQrv0LzI/AAAAAAAAB9k/fFozNQrfeKA/IMG_7395_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="495" height="346"></a></p> <p>Excuse the poorly lighted photos, my photography is still a learning process :)</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-J0cHmWGGUgU/UWcRRKTjPHI/AAAAAAAAB9s/VKYowh4s7bw/s1600-h/IMG_7392%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_7392" border="0" alt="IMG_7392" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-7AQUibu0hZM/UWcRRlUmX2I/AAAAAAAAB90/Sk-DmRVIzuM/IMG_7392_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="389" height="614"></a></p> <p>And then I added rows of pebbles here and there. Seriously loved quilting this one!!! </p> <p>I used a wavy stripe for the binding. Looks great on the front and the back!</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-4kPPASnM52w/UWcRSslybBI/AAAAAAAAB98/hC3aAn9tzxI/s1600-h/IMG_7398%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_7398" border="0" alt="IMG_7398" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-HOgSy-a1xbU/UWcRTJK-INI/AAAAAAAAB-E/YdGAyRuFaqg/IMG_7398_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="489" height="342"></a></p> <p>Most of the back is this park fountain print in brown and yellow that I had in my stash, but since the top was too wide for one width of fabric, I added a strip of the brown and yellow martini dots, too. Fun and funky :)</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-NXNMWZ_B5oY/UWcRT0i4SrI/AAAAAAAAB-M/fX0lfUBNyfQ/s1600-h/IMG_7400%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_7400" border="0" alt="IMG_7400" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-UlClvep4wbI/UWcRUshz4kI/AAAAAAAAB-U/F8pIxbhC71w/IMG_7400_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="493" height="345"></a></p> <p>This quilt has already arrived at its new home(um like a month ago….), and I am now in the middle of working on a drunkard’s path quilt along for the Phoenix Modern Quilt Guild. Since my mom and I will be heading the QAL, maybe we will post them here, too!</p> <p>ps- seriously, if you want to see what I’m up to WHILE I’m doing it, find me on <a href="http://instagram.com/materialgirlkirsten" target="_blank">instagram</a>. It is fantabulous.</p> Kirstenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11844893008898885370noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6064077039636308847.post-18960434115409972842013-02-18T09:38:00.001-07:002013-02-18T09:43:39.369-07:00PhxMQG Mug Rug SwapSaturday was the Phoenix Modern Quilt Guild’s February meeting, and we held a little mug rug swap. I love doing these little swaps, because I use it as an opportunity to learn and stretch my creativity and skill.<br />
Of course, creativity didn’t strike until about 8pm the night before…and my idea was a little crazy and time consuming…<br />
You that lovely <a href="http://six-white-horses.blogspot.com/2012/01/lone-starburst.html" target="_blank">lone starburst block</a> that is so popular right now? I had the bright idea to scale it down to mug rug size! (I have a few in progress photos on instagram, but I have no idea how to get them to my blog. Help?!?)<br />
Here’s my result:<br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-zavBLtQ9hRw/USJY5NdaAmI/AAAAAAAAB5U/vCEOSyslEcg/s1600-h/IMG_7127%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_7127" border="0" height="346" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-wnr9VupPqzY/USJY5uiYaRI/AAAAAAAAB5c/Sm5N6whLdaI/IMG_7127_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_7127" width="493" /></a><br />
I love it sooo much!!! The inner white pieces finish at a mere 1/8” wide!!! The whole thing is 6 1/2” square<br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-agxjqnZbLn8/USJY6RHg-fI/AAAAAAAAB5k/uc3ebSPJIJ0/s1600-h/IMG_7137%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_7137" border="0" height="347" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-W1XvGqHZMz8/USJY6j8oACI/AAAAAAAAB5s/mexSevnc__Y/IMG_7137_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_7137" width="494" /></a><br />
Here’s a shot with a nickel for an idea of scale. Seriously tiny piecing going on. Now the problem is I will never be able to throw away even the tiniest scrap of fabric, because what if I NEED it some day?? <br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-X3g7O0nT4uA/USJY7N-mGxI/AAAAAAAAB50/Ojw0NVtOYM0/s1600-h/IMG_7129%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_7129" border="0" height="350" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-kEU0ymR6OHI/USJY7o1JseI/AAAAAAAAB58/La30W44HOAc/IMG_7129_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_7129" width="499" /></a><br />
I backed it in this fun colorful Kumari Garden print. And I got to use one of my brand new tags!!! I found the <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/gutenTAGs" target="_blank">awesomest Etsy shop ever. Cassie at GutenTags</a> is seriously awesome, and I will definitely be back for more from her. <br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-3EuJ1c9uV84/USJY8Wz4c8I/AAAAAAAAB6E/YKp84hBJa5Y/s1600-h/IMG_7132%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_7132" border="0" height="349" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-du-Y4g1i2X8/USJY8lTgAbI/AAAAAAAAB6M/SHcGq60_xfI/IMG_7132_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_7132" width="497" /></a><br />
And the back side of my new tags :)<br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-_h9iRokNRps/USJY9b2DBsI/AAAAAAAAB6U/pJ4HTBxyG1k/s1600-h/IMG_7130%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_7130" border="0" height="348" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-GMiH2mCXePg/USJY9vHRP-I/AAAAAAAAB6c/Ub_eksPXesU/IMG_7130_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_7130" width="495" /></a><br />
Ok, here’s where my story gets silly. We did a random swap for the guild mug rug swap, and I was the last to get one. And guess which mug rug was last to be distributed….Mine!! To save confusion, and because I really do love it, I kept my own mug rug…I felt so dumb taking my own back….but then again, I am really excited that it gets to live with me after the hours of teeny tiny piecing I put into it :)<br />

PS- QUILT CON IS THIS WEEK!!! Getting super excited! If it is quiet around here, it is because I am frantically trying to get my house in order and ready for me to be gone for a few days! And packing...Kirstenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11844893008898885370noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6064077039636308847.post-44304654008276813302013-02-08T15:17:00.001-07:002013-02-08T15:34:31.105-07:00A Custom Wedding QuiltI finished this gorgeous custom wedding quilt earlier this week, and I couldn’t be happier with it!<br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-0vokKiGDRrA/URV5VH0NL6I/AAAAAAAAB2U/1_zYiecubvE/s1600-h/IMG_7072%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_7072" border="0" height="643" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-GVSJFGEav5I/URV5VufaS3I/AAAAAAAAB2c/TQbjb1RfHD8/IMG_7072_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_7072" width="416" /></a><br />
I met the mother of the bride at one if my craft fairs in December, and she asked if I could make a wedding guest quilt for her daughter’s wedding that was, as you can see, at the end of December. <br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-zYxOLUOUQoI/URV5WmWxRAI/AAAAAAAAB2k/9EjgTJXiW44/s1600-h/IMG_7074%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_7074" border="0" height="344" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-zAseQMjCF2U/URV5XHgGuJI/AAAAAAAAB2s/aXqRuHC5aV4/IMG_7074_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_7074" width="489" /></a><br />
We decided having unfinished solid squares for guests to sign would be the best course, in case a young child got hold of a pen or something and went to town on it. Can you imagine that happening on a finished quilt? I would cry :) <br />
After the wedding, she brought the squares back to me, and I came up with a quilt design, incorporating the signed squares.<br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-ciRSwRleI8g/URV5XpCv2qI/AAAAAAAAB20/UA9wLyA69Ik/s1600-h/IMG_7076%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_7076" border="0" height="616" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-Bw0k2DOUNlw/URV5Yei5gVI/AAAAAAAAB28/d1VLuk6oZBE/IMG_7076_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_7076" width="391" /></a><br />
I didn’t want to quilt on top of any writing and risk obscuring it, so I quilted straight lines right outside the center squares. <br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-XN5GXKqWOyU/URV5Y1svsRI/AAAAAAAAB3E/ox2aYsg8RP0/s1600-h/IMG_7077%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_7077" border="0" height="344" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-D3s6NSlAvzw/URV5ZFOBSKI/AAAAAAAAB3M/agaGb6p2X1s/IMG_7077_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_7077" width="489" /></a><br />
For the large monogram block, I outlined the S and the date with quilting lines, and then quilted along the chevrons in the background fabric.<br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-M3z_NGyyri4/URV5aHamMKI/AAAAAAAAB3U/AmgOMPbh9Fw/s1600-h/IMG_7080%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_7080" border="0" height="344" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-3TSN27_3GBA/URV5ah3gjAI/AAAAAAAAB3c/XvNz7g4wW9Q/IMG_7080_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_7080" width="489" /></a><br />
Here is a photo of the quilting of the center block on the back. It looked way cool :)<br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-T5uXavXF8sc/URV5biDqMPI/AAAAAAAAB3k/asx-nMbNPqs/s1600-h/IMG_7079%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_7079" border="0" height="350" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-Ev3R11MrmOs/URV5cHF1C3I/AAAAAAAAB3s/FIF7noRl7tQ/IMG_7079_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_7079" width="498" /></a><br />
At first, I was going to back the quilt with the large yellow tonal chevron, but when I went to get it, my LQS was OUT of it!! So sad. Sniff. But then I spied this Joel Dewberry large floral print from Heirloom, and I knew it was meant to be. The yellow was perfect, and I liked that it was cream instead of white, because it made it look softer. I used Kona Charcoal for the binding to frame the whole quilt well, and to pull a little more charcoal into the quilt, because that was the monogram fabric as well.<br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-sLdutENo90g/URV5dIcfJEI/AAAAAAAAB34/QoIIG6EarKU/s1600-h/IMG_7082%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_7082" border="0" height="345" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-KU7iuj67IcU/URV5d7W7mqI/AAAAAAAAB4A/vDtZZ3WLHm8/IMG_7082_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_7082" width="491" /></a><br />
Oh and one more thing about the back. Since this quilt was big enough to need to piece the backing, I matched the pattern in the fabric so that it would look continuous. I should do a tutorial on that some time, huh? I have a pretty simple way of making it match up just right. And really, it makes such a vast improvement, especially on a large scale print.<br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/--NFDV1vXHUg/URV5e6l7u7I/AAAAAAAAB4I/B0mP6XHeAbE/s1600-h/IMG_7084%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_7084" border="0" height="347" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-vaAPRKg1fJs/URV5fm8XKkI/AAAAAAAAB4Q/1-5q0rdXrCc/IMG_7084_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_7084" width="494" /></a><br />
I loved being able to make this quilt. It was a really fun experience creating something to help a young couple commemorate their special day.<br />
I will soon be offering custom wedding quilts in my etsy shop, but I haven’t gotten a listing up quite yet. <br />
<br />
Oh ps I finally just got Instagram!! I will probably be way better about posting pictures of projects there than here. It is so bright and busy and all GIRL! Once again, I started with a fun multicolor print that had been living on my shelf waiting for the perfect project. I pulled out that argyle print while I was supposed to be working on something else (surprise!), and the rest of the fabric practically jumped into a pile and screamed to be cut.</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-976p3dEGCWM/UQc5hLSQMzI/AAAAAAAABz4/903QNjZU_zE/s1600-h/IMG_6368%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_6368" border="0" alt="IMG_6368" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-CRSaRB-OXyg/UQc5ic89SKI/AAAAAAAAB0A/8UHfkCfxKzw/IMG_6368_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="441" height="704"></a></p> <p>I used the same basic pattern as the quilt in my last post, but I deleted the sashing and made more blocks. I love that it is super simple, almost a plain square patchwork, but just adding the rectangles makes the quilt look like so much more!</p> <p>I quilted with an all over meandering loop – definitely my favorite free motion pattern!</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-sr8sXVkLbL4/UQc5kNr40ZI/AAAAAAAAB0I/ccYzxWfm8WY/s1600-h/IMG_6372%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_6372" border="0" alt="IMG_6372" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-D6Nqv8F5NNM/UQc5lCfjl8I/AAAAAAAAB0Q/OPUWyEqqXog/IMG_6372_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="495" height="357"></a></p> <p>The back of this quilt might be my favorite part of the whole thing!! I have a weird thing for solid bindings lately; I feel like I have done a lot of them! I figured if it made that print look way cool, why not a whole quilt? :)</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-HOw4sEHwrA4/UQLe5DHMxeI/AAAAAAAABxk/TfH-MWYbrqM/s1600-h/IMG_6353%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_6353" border="0" alt="IMG_6353" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-L3b4hrf5voA/UQLe57igfcI/AAAAAAAABxs/jxHLhv6gONI/IMG_6353_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="489" height="354"></a></p> <p>I quilted a basic diamond grid design all over; not too heavy, so the quilt will be super soft, but heavy enough for a little boy quilt.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-kSPRe75vgxM/UQLe7NmbaSI/AAAAAAAABx0/2JpJCNzoxJE/s1600-h/IMG_6356%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_6356" border="0" alt="IMG_6356" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-V5Gk9mXi764/UQLe8OOYUTI/AAAAAAAABx8/1M1usxgska4/IMG_6356_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="391" height="615"></a></p> <p>I backed the quilt in this fun blue and white dot. I got a few yards of it as an end of bolt a year or so ago, and I have loved it! I will be so sad when I run out.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-wYSRuYrw2O0/UQLe907QnaI/AAAAAAAAByE/wOuFzl8BsEg/s1600-h/IMG_6358%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_6358" border="0" alt="IMG_6358" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-Oec7iLwts2c/UQLe-Xo-jTI/AAAAAAAAByM/0AzRO7UH0O8/IMG_6358_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="487" height="342"></a></p> <p>I used a Me and My Sister Designs green grid print for the binding. I liked it a lot, and it went together pretty easy, but I think one side of my template got shaved a bit o my pieces didn’t fit together perfectly and I had to trim my blocks down. Nothing I couldn’t fix!</p> <p>I don’t know what’s up with the lighting in these pictures, but the solid fabric is actually a light pink. I have no idea which one, I <strike>stole</strike> borrowed it from my mom’s stash.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/--Xd_sWBEJ2U/UQF_lFWLC5I/AAAAAAAABuE/EcO24mWWnec/s1600-h/IMG_5380%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5380" border="0" alt="IMG_5380" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-Dc85hD8IBTQ/UQF_lyv1PRI/AAAAAAAABuM/_ItzK27F4hI/IMG_5380_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="494" height="347"></a></p> <p>I quilted 1/4” inside each kaleidoscope pattern, and then made a small square in the center of each one too, since I opted out of the center circles that the pattern calls for.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-WW-UIIJNUsE/UQF_nwEJanI/AAAAAAAABuU/YT_eh1M1Hs4/s1600-h/IMG_5385%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5385" border="0" alt="IMG_5385" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-I8rLL7kqwq0/UQF_oWAXdYI/AAAAAAAABuc/1h3ai_gPZgk/IMG_5385_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="492" height="346"></a></p> <p>I took one row of squares off the front and made a block on the back surrounded in some more light pink solid.</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-FdEzug7IXuc/UQF_p6bD12I/AAAAAAAABuk/JoO4C-i2DQg/s1600-h/IMG_5382%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5382" border="0" alt="IMG_5382" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-GQfDT0BP6zE/UQF_qtfHDkI/AAAAAAAABus/7Cr5ErkRQi4/IMG_5382_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="358" height="563"></a></p> <p>I used this pink and red dot from Bonnie and Camille’s Bliss line. I LOVE this dot! I wish I had a bolt of each color, because I feel like I need to hoard it!! It has been so long since I finished this that I don’t remember how big it was or anything! So, on to the next one!</p> <p>I gifted this one in October, too, but the baby was ummm almost 4 months old then…oops!</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-chg2TuhkYUA/UQF_sd2bdFI/AAAAAAAABu0/UUN4VFM1FlY/s1600-h/IMG_5390%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5390" border="0" alt="IMG_5390" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-JjY0nbwpLZQ/UQF_tZooc9I/AAAAAAAABu8/RidObPIMlec/IMG_5390_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="394" height="619"></a></p> <p>This quilt was fast and cute and easy, and it was so fun getting to play with boy fabrics and colors! I have to admit, this quilt(and that big red white and navy herringbone) got me on a bit of a navy kick! My navy stash grew from 1 or 2 prints to ummm….a lot more :)</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-BLyPO30-roI/UQF_veMiRII/AAAAAAAABvE/gCTTZOM1Zpw/s1600-h/IMG_5394%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5394" border="0" alt="IMG_5394" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-6U1iR66Cav4/UQF_wBinQxI/AAAAAAAABvM/r-9jsruw9rE/IMG_5394_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="494" height="347"></a></p> <p>I attempted quilting flame-like swirls for this quilt. I call it a good learning experience…it doesn’t look great, but once it’s washed and loved a bit, it won’t be too noticeable. I definitely need to practice my free-motion more!! Seriously want a magna doodle…</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-ZwWl-ub9ots/UQF_x4W57QI/AAAAAAAABvU/Tw_Zp1-5ueM/s1600-h/IMG_5399%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5399" border="0" alt="IMG_5399" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-LbWBC9JKuOs/UQF_zsNztRI/AAAAAAAABvc/fmy9TbGIzdw/IMG_5399_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="395" height="622"></a></p> <p>I used the awesome print from Sweetwater’s Reunion line, plus some extra bricks, for the back. Oh. My. Heck. Reunion is SOOOO SOFT!!! </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-vhawP_RXbfI/UQF_0sp30VI/AAAAAAAABvk/9DmbKGcdATs/s1600-h/IMG_5396%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5396" border="0" alt="IMG_5396" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-kz0BKmu5wuI/UQF_1cMiTTI/AAAAAAAABvs/lFOdYEZ70DQ/IMG_5396_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="278" height="429"></a></p> <p>I love me a red binding! Well, I just love red…</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-NZ6jNrvTyyE/UQF_3bEIi1I/AAAAAAAABv0/ETXXpRpHnqo/s1600-h/IMG_5406%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5406" border="0" alt="IMG_5406" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-BwjeL7BbTFE/UQF_5IojagI/AAAAAAAABv8/RDaZEhX0EuI/IMG_5406_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="492" height="346"></a></p> <p>And there are advantages to finishing a baby quilt AFTER the baby is born. I was able to quilt Roman’s name into the border. I love getting to personalize things!</p> <p> </p> <p>So, there are a couple of my finishes from the end of the year…I still have two more from November, plus a Christmas gift to share. I will try my best to get them posted in the next few days!</p> Kirstenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11844893008898885370noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6064077039636308847.post-40333931881627305772012-12-03T11:59:00.001-07:002012-12-03T11:59:09.939-07:00Yellow and Gray Quilt FINISH!!<p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-g7_2H09PDog/ULz2J3YDnrI/AAAAAAAABrI/5arzZYZq4NY/s1600-h/IMG_6325%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_6325" border="0" alt="IMG_6325" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-KbUa8TF0vRk/ULz2LUARzYI/AAAAAAAABrQ/djEGpaQlVnE/IMG_6325_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="479" height="563"></a></p> <p>So, I started this quilt MONTHS ago, before we moved. In fact, I took my first few blocks with me to the Phoenix Modern Quilt Guild meeting back in June!</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-E-A9AudM22Y/ULz2OJcVeGI/AAAAAAAABrY/fPEDY-I_imo/s1600-h/IMG_4331%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_4331" border="0" alt="IMG_4331" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-U8BcF3attJE/ULz2O-JijUI/AAAAAAAABrg/S-0F860Dr5c/IMG_4331_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="491" height="344"></a></p> <p>I started working on blocks again last month (from my <a href="http://maniacalmaterialgirls.blogspot.com/2010/08/square-in-square-tutorial.html" target="_blank">square in square block tutorial</a>, though I want to revamp that now…), got on a kick, and pushed through to get them all done. In fact, I took plenty of photos on my phone, but I didn’t even take the time to get any with the real camera while I had all those beautiful blocks up on my *new* design wall!</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-dxDSbz-kpIQ/ULz2Ripu9dI/AAAAAAAABro/xkWPIVg1Ht0/s1600-h/IMG_6322%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_6322" border="0" alt="IMG_6322" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-8WSupxF_ip4/ULz2ShKeX6I/AAAAAAAABrw/r4uMud1liXg/IMG_6322_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="489" height="342"></a></p> <p>Photography frustrates me. If I take the pictures in full sunlight, I get weird ugly glares, and it’s too bright. If I take them in the shade, they turn out dull, like these. Any suggestions from those of you that are better at this than me?? The colors are so much more vibrant in person!!</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-_ltx38_fFtE/ULz2ULRaj-I/AAAAAAAABr4/TfFt17xhBcs/s1600-h/IMG_6332%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_6332" border="0" alt="IMG_6332" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-7wEjI0bELtw/ULz2VKtkTEI/AAAAAAAABsA/gOQmBKYpb5M/IMG_6332_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="489" height="342"></a></p> <p>I combined two of my favorite free motion patterns, and quilted loopys and flowers, per my mom’s suggestion. It turned out so cute and I love it! And I love this block with the big chevrons. It is left over from the backing of another finished quilt that I just got photos of, and will share soon.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-8xv21BjcTpg/ULz2XnF3fUI/AAAAAAAABsI/IPhbuObGdNQ/s1600-h/IMG_6336%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_6336" border="0" alt="IMG_6336" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-4t3FDm14-bI/ULz2ZRSb-VI/AAAAAAAABsQ/gsCG8-ndsDI/IMG_6336_thumb%25255B4%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="480" height="591"></a></p> <p>This picture does not even do the backing justice. It looks AMAZING in person. It is a Joel Dewberry print from Aviary 2 (L O V E!!), and the border is a BasicGrey grunge yellow. It is AWESOME.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-I7Ypw_Jp32E/ULz2ao4DutI/AAAAAAAABsY/KA_jb10EQjk/s1600-h/IMG_6339%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_6339" border="0" alt="IMG_6339" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-02bYURXLo1Y/ULz2bRwbAMI/AAAAAAAABsg/P78Ka4W4CXs/IMG_6339_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="481" height="337"></a></p> <p>I bound the quilt in Kona Charcoal. I love the way it frames the blocks. It was definitely the way to finish it!</p> <p>Each block finishes at 10”, and the quilt is 50” x 60” finished size. </p> <p>I seriously wanted to keep this and change my entire bedroom to match it, but my husband wasn’t too keen on the idea :( Too bad, it would have been fabulous!</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Uju6VREZHvg/ULz2eG2k36I/AAAAAAAABso/osfxoYe20tw/s1600-h/IMG_6346%25255B11%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_6346" border="0" alt="IMG_6346" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-tlYjZvj1sCg/ULz2fE0MNDI/AAAAAAAABsw/3B_d4ewF_X0/IMG_6346_thumb%25255B5%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="487" height="341"></a></p> <p>Since I didn’t get to use it for my bedroom, I have listed this quilt in <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/117023656/yellow-and-gray-modern-throw-quilt-lap" target="_blank">my shop here</a>:)</p> Kirstenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11844893008898885370noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6064077039636308847.post-32960518851855092772012-11-21T23:00:00.000-07:002012-11-21T23:00:06.447-07:00Know Thy Machine<p><b><a href="http://www.13woodhouseroad.com/" target="_blank"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfWKmKVY-tW_k0RCFXrdecSUHF-Oo2j97hAJUWgMU56Tdf4H8lZVsxuTnXfvUyifSKsUhshFWUs5LA0HOaMLTmZLjSHtGWFsb3UWbsrra4fre4YS9Klb2QVdQUq6PBUXPFQSvHZjSzBjnU/s250/button.JPG"></a></b></p> <p><b>Hey all! I am joining in on the fun over at <a href="http://www.13woodhouseroad.com/" target="_blank">13 Woodhouse Road</a>, and I have the honor of being the post on Thanksgiving! Woo hoo! </b></p> <p><strong>Anyways, head on over to enter for fabulous giveaways on Shruti’s blog after you read AAAAALLLLLL about my sewing machine :)</strong></p> <p><b></b> </p> <p><b>1. What machine(s) do you have? Brand and Model.<br></p></b> <p><b>I have a Bernina Aurora 440 QE</b></p> <p><b>2. When and where did you buy it? What were the reasons for selecting this(these) particular model(s). What was its approximate cost.</b></p> <p><b>I bought it a year and a half ago at a local quilt shop called Quilter’s Ranch. I had been looking at the 440QE for a while, and had test driven one at a quilt show a few months before. The real selling point for me was the Bernina Stitch Regulator, which regulates your stitches while you free motion quilt. It is AMAZING! At the time, my machine cost me about $3,000(after tax, blegh) on sale. However, they have clearanced out my model since they have a newer one out now.</b></p><strong></strong><b> <p><br>3. What do you like about your machine? Have you named it? Have you made a cover for it?<br></p> <p>I like almost everything about my machine. I LOVE the BSR, my walking foot is awesome, and I especially love the heavy duty-ness of the entire machine. When you pick it up, you know there is more metal than plastic to it!</p> <p>I have named my machine, though I rarely actually call her by it :) She’s Rory.</p> <p>I have not made a cover for it. I use it way too often to bother covering it up. Besides, it’s in my sewing room(and my husband’s office), so I have no reason to cover it.</p> <p>4. Does your machine give you any problems? Could you tell us a few?</p> <p>The only problem I have run across is that I can’t wind a bobbin of heavy duty super thick outdoor thread. I was kind of sad about that, but that has been the only thing my machine can’t do so far. Well, I guess it didn’t really care for the super heavy canvas I sewed on this week…but we managed :)</p> <p><br>5. What do you sew on it mainly? Quilts, Clothes, Bags etc. How much time do you spend sewing on it? What are the features of the machine that help you improve your work?<br></p> <p>I sew mostly quilts. I also sew other small items occasionally, like drawstring bags, hot/cold packs, whatever I decide I want to sell at craft fairs, with an occasional little girl dress. I have also sewn custom pillows, outdoor cushions, indoor cushions, duvet covers, and who knows what else, in a variety of types and weights of fabric. Rory took them all like a champ!!</p> <p>I sew almost every day for at least an hour, but it always depends on what naptime brings :)</p> <p> </p> <p>6. What advice would you give others when deciding about which machine to buy?</p> <p>I definitely recommend test driving a few machines before you purchase!!</p> <p><br>7. Will you share with us a special memory associated with your machine?</p> <p>Hmm, a special memory…she still feels “new” to me, so I don’t feel like I have that many memories yet, but one thing does come to mind. Occasionally my oldest sits on my lap and “helps” me sew(which really tries my patience, but I know it’s good quality time!!). Well, last year, she was sitting on my lap, playing with the pins, and next thing I know, she had stuck pins in two of the small holes on my machine!!! The holes were just barely big enough that the pins fell all the way into my machine. Luckily, they must have fallen straight through to the bottom, because nothing happened. I was very surprised not to hear anything about them when I took the machine in for her yearly service though!</p> <p><br>8. If you had unlimited resources in the world, which machine would you choose to buy and why?<br></p> <p>Oooohhhh…probably a Bernina 830. It’s my machine on steroids…so much more space…It has more functions than I would ever dream of being able to use, but oh is it pretty! And it has the ONE thing I wish my machine had…an automatic thread cutter.</p></b> <p><strong>Thanks for visiting!</strong></p> Kirstenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11844893008898885370noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6064077039636308847.post-53020655303859764022012-11-02T07:45:00.001-07:002012-11-02T07:47:06.902-07:00On Quilt Sales (and a finished quilt)So, I had a craft fair last Saturday. I found myself low on boy quilts, so I decided to throw one together last minute (and I shared a pic of it being basted). Now, truth time. I very rarely end up selling my quilts at the craft fairs I vend at. However, I still have a good time, and I make enough in small item sales that it’s worth it to go. So, I figured I would still have this quilt to list in my etsy shop this week. Imagine my surprise then when a woman decided to buy not just one, but two of my quilts fairly early in the morning last Saturday! <br />
Luckily, I remembered at the last minute to ask if I could grab a picture of the quilt before she left, since I hadn’t taken ANY pictures of the finished thing yet!<br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-2f0ono-PyOI/UJPcT6C7rhI/AAAAAAAABpg/BI703Xdj5xQ/s1600-h/IMG_5805%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_5805" border="0" height="575" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-webYVGzt8RI/UJPcU2HNsgI/AAAAAAAABpo/qsyVLTtRJsQ/IMG_5805_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_5805" width="364" /></a><br />
She was even kind enough to hold it up for me! I quickly snapped a few photos, so they aren’t amazing, but at least I got something, eh?<br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-7ot_-I5vNqI/UJPcXTb1f9I/AAAAAAAABpw/uWgANUg4pms/s1600-h/IMG_5806%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img alt="IMG_5806" border="0" height="586" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-kLsfrNaAB6Y/UJPcYICh1PI/AAAAAAAABp4/enm-oXgeu6o/IMG_5806_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_5806" width="371" /></a><br />
And the back. Loved the back of this one! I used up every bit of the harlequin and the giraffe print I had on it, which made me sad, but it looked so good it made up for it :)<br />
And because I am sure you are just dying to see the rest of my booth, here it is:<br />

This quilt is now basted and waiting to be quilted:</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-knehqunT9bg/UJG2CaMZWCI/AAAAAAAABok/aHEj_a6Hsy4/s1600-h/IMG_5874%25255B9%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5874" border="0" alt="IMG_5874" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-YBOZynxhbpY/UJG2Da0EJnI/AAAAAAAABos/nWS_YVbmwOs/IMG_5874_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="491" height="344"></a></p> <p>I basted another, too, but apparently I forgot to get a picture of that one, whoops! (I did finish up the one from my last post, and I do have pictures to share!)</p> <p>Now my table looks like this while I go through my inventory:</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-m2Z8hH8TDfI/UJG2E7I7RjI/AAAAAAAABo0/_wconANwi0o/s1600-h/IMG_5875%25255B10%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5875" border="0" alt="IMG_5875" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-L5fiXOVmcJo/UJG2FtWwIMI/AAAAAAAABo8/lQcJdwZfJMo/IMG_5875_thumb%25255B4%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="491" height="352"></a></p> <p>Always so much work!!</p> <p>So, if you are local, come check out my craft fair this Saturday at American Leadership Academy at Pecos and San Tan in Gilbert! They are hosting a carnival with rides and games, open to the public, with the craft fair held in the gymnasium.</p> Kirstenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11844893008898885370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6064077039636308847.post-74321799570341393762012-10-25T12:17:00.001-07:002012-10-25T12:17:28.837-07:00On My Table<p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-61zSCBl_q7E/UImQRPNa5SI/AAAAAAAABng/xIFscmb51O4/s1600-h/IMG_5789%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5789" border="0" alt="IMG_5789" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-JlFf3k-gIlg/UImQR8TcS9I/AAAAAAAABno/QZXussNI9Zg/IMG_5789_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="494" height="346"></a></p> <p>Well really, now it’s sitting on my sewing table waiting for me to quilt it, but 10 minutes ago, this was what my table looked like :)</p> <p>Trying to finish this one up to have at my craft fair on Saturday! </p> <p>Speaking of craft fairs, if you are local and want to stop by and say hi, I will be at Chalice Christian Church on Gilbert Rd just north of Williams Field/Chandler. I sewed them together, set them in a field of aqua, and turned it into this!<br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-iMonbVGiUkU/UIGqv3L89wI/AAAAAAAABlk/f7FJJj0Ydec/s1600-h/IMG_53515.jpg"><img alt="IMG_5351" border="0" height="555" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-7NH49Zredbk/UIGqw7w5hqI/AAAAAAAABls/6Z6iOPAVEZE/IMG_5351_thumb2.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_5351" width="358" /></a><br />
Oh my goodness, I had so much fun with this quilt! I have had so many custom jobs and baby quilts to make lately that I haven’t just PLAYED with fabric and made something because I thought it might kind of look good. It was great!!<br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-UHDADdz_1E4/UIGqyRlwS3I/AAAAAAAABl0/GIbrEEK2sqY/s1600-h/IMG_53525.jpg"><img alt="IMG_5352" border="0" height="342" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-gCN-7Qqw-Wc/UIGqzGpSYOI/AAAAAAAABl8/dwCzzsWBpC0/IMG_5352_thumb2.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_5352" width="489" /></a><br />
I tried to push myself a bit with the quilting, too. I know I need to branch out and do some more free motion quilting. Originally, I was going to just do the diagonal lines on all of the blue (there’s something different in the triangle area, but it’s hard to see here), but after I got partway through I could tell it needed something else, too.<br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-LAREFXb8HM4/UIGq0e4tR0I/AAAAAAAABmE/x4lpyR2toDs/s1600-h/IMG_53535.jpg"><img alt="IMG_5353" border="0" height="345" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-zLn7e4uoRKg/UIGq1JptlNI/AAAAAAAABmM/RVSyH9AY2Uc/IMG_5353_thumb2.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_5353" width="493" /></a><br />
So, I pebble quilted a strip, and I LOVE it!!!! It was SO much fun to quilt! Definitely want to play with some of that again.<br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-IjNafCRazvI/UIGq2JiSvTI/AAAAAAAABmU/4gEhKNUuaTM/s1600-h/IMG_53566.jpg"><img alt="IMG_5356" border="0" height="615" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-1GepkXG5Itw/UIGq22SxOLI/AAAAAAAABmc/XApMzxNR7ps/IMG_5356_thumb3.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_5356" width="390" /></a><br />
Aha, now you can see all of the quilting. I kept the back solid; I liked the idea of just having that one block of triangles in the whole quilt.<br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/--LAxewG-NSU/UIGq4No_bXI/AAAAAAAABmk/3DAUI2BRl5U/s1600-h/IMG_53615.jpg"><img alt="IMG_5361" border="0" height="341" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-sedywT7D-rw/UIGq5FnMTHI/AAAAAAAABms/BRu3rYppjJk/IMG_5361_thumb2.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_5361" width="487" /></a><br />
I bound the quilt in one of my favorite dots ever. It’s a dot from Bonnie & Camille’s Bliss line.<br />
Quilt finishes at 42” x 49”, and is now available in <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/111540998/modern-red-pink-and-aqua-triangle-quilt" target="_blank">my shop here.</a>Kirstenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11844893008898885370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6064077039636308847.post-78406747157980193072012-10-19T12:42:00.001-07:002012-10-19T12:42:21.485-07:00Fabric finds<p>So there is this store sort of near me called SAS that sells fabric, ribbon, and other sewing shtuff. This store (Salvation Army Surplus) drives me nuts, because it’s a mess. And dirty. And they don’t have a public bathroom (and I have a 3 year old…) And you have to dig through mounds of loose fabric to find anything. And I’m not really a digger. However, after yesterday, I might be a convert:</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-KIDTFQ2cy6s/UIGtGMTDr-I/AAAAAAAABm0/E-UzhZrsyVc/s1600-h/IMG_5677%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5677" border="0" alt="IMG_5677" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-a6JoFJ3GjRc/UIGtHM86mQI/AAAAAAAABm8/vgJKJRNLC6k/IMG_5677_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="495" height="346"></a></p> <p>The mound of fabric was as tall as me (no kidding!) on the table, but I barely had to dig to find all of this treasure! In fact, I ran out of money (and my 9 month old ran out of patience) long before I ran out of fabric!</p> <p>These pieces range from 1/4 yard up to almost 3 yards. And did I mention it was only 3.99/yd? Yeah, it was only 3.99/yd. SCORE.</p> <p>About half of this is going to live in my mom’s stash though. I shared the love :)</p> Kirstenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11844893008898885370noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6064077039636308847.post-63765840715550942052012-10-08T07:57:00.001-07:002012-10-08T07:57:42.130-07:00A Domestic Bliss Baby Quilt<p>I finished this cute baby quilt recently and finally got pictures on Saturday:</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-xIvcCQhdGds/UHLpr2ZT_DI/AAAAAAAABaU/YgWM13Pa2Sg/s1600-h/IMG_5342%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5342" border="0" alt="IMG_5342" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-BVGhYVzQGCo/UHLptR4lJOI/AAAAAAAABac/AR3gX46_0wA/IMG_5342_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="388" height="601"></a></p> <p>I duplicated <a href="http://maniacalmaterialgirls.blogspot.com/2012/06/islas-quilt.html" target="_blank">this quilt</a> that I finished a few months ago, but this time I used two charm packs of Domestic Bliss. LOVE this line! I didn’t like it immediately; it took me a few times seeing it to decide that it is fabulous. Unfortunately, since I didn’t purchase any right away, I missed out on a few prints that I really wish I had now!!</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-SOz8xiAp63U/UHLpv70Pk8I/AAAAAAAABak/7oNUW6QtS1g/s1600-h/IMG_5343%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5343" border="0" alt="IMG_5343" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-AsQBSQN2MNg/UHLpw7d-B4I/AAAAAAAABas/oMsk0FSkBBE/IMG_5343_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="490" height="343"></a></p> <p>My sashing is a cream solid, and for the life of me I can’t remember now what color it is, or if it’s a bella or a kona! Those solids are just so tricky!</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-0CKsICUZJCE/UHLpzec2JDI/AAAAAAAABa0/KKI6xnn5yOI/s1600-h/IMG_5344%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5344" border="0" alt="IMG_5344" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/--FtH9QbvHQM/UHLp0jhDnII/AAAAAAAABa8/jsnEdjr32Gc/IMG_5344_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="388" height="612"></a></p> <p>I backed the entire thing in this cute print. It’s so fun and happy! And I love the binding!! Kicking myself for not getting more than a 1/2 yard of that one…</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-EPYv2-LnQos/UHLp2MrhVpI/AAAAAAAABbE/H3zKNJjL__Q/s1600-h/IMG_5345%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5345" border="0" alt="IMG_5345" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-SskzvZpt910/UHLp3EVEmVI/AAAAAAAABbM/0rwXs8ea8Uc/IMG_5345_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="477" height="334"></a></p> <p>I went straight line quilting with this quilt. I felt like the prints were so busy, it needed something simple. I quilted 1/4” away from the sashing seams to emphasize the grid pattern.</p> <p>This cute, fun little quilt finished up at 38” x 47”.</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-bsPD1cfguRA/UHLp4C8B_5I/AAAAAAAABbU/R8NK--y38cI/s1600-h/IMG_5349%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5349" border="0" alt="IMG_5349" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-9PyfEqEmEVc/UHLp5HMhXeI/AAAAAAAABbc/PCcITMT23BI/IMG_5349_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="489" height="342"></a></p> <p>It turned out beautifully! I really love the super saturated colors, especially for a fun modern baby quilt.</p> <p>I have listed this quilt in my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/111420631/domestic-bliss-baby-girl-quilt" target="_blank">shop here</a> :)</p> Kirstenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11844893008898885370noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6064077039636308847.post-13221017121174081092012-09-26T07:56:00.001-07:002012-09-26T07:56:49.183-07:00FAIL<p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-3DXeH2FfRsA/UGMXnPYKTbI/AAAAAAAABZc/zVqxQpoXHOI/s1600-h/IMG_5290%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5290" border="0" alt="IMG_5290" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-9e64vOKT2_Q/UGMXoN-VNAI/AAAAAAAABZk/A0Fe8Z3tU9Y/IMG_5290_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="491" height="344"></a></p> <p>I recommend NOT laying shelves down on newspaper to paint them with regular latex-based paint. I also definitely recommend not letting said shelves DRY on the newspaper. Because seriously, they are beyond bad. I was finally going over to see my friend and her new baby, and the quilt was finally done so I could deliver it, and it was RAINING. And OVERCAST. And DARK. And I was grumpy.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-kSt10mFNwss/UFqX_TKumYI/AAAAAAAABX8/sIr13XZx1pY/s1600-h/IMG_5101%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5101" border="0" alt="IMG_5101" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-7gWDdEHBQNg/UFqYJ2LIxDI/AAAAAAAABYM/dTnUpgj7FIk/IMG_5101_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="495" height="346"></a></p> <p>And you get two herringbone quilts in a row! :) </p> <p>I actually made this cute little baby quilt before the other super-sized herringbone; this one made me want to make the second one!</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-QTcJZ-AOVN4/UFqYNEXrglI/AAAAAAAABYU/Lx8kTLnSffk/s1600-h/IMG_5103%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5103" border="0" alt="IMG_5103" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-FlpSVv2Grnc/UFqYOmmbjAI/AAAAAAAABYc/IpAQObbo4do/IMG_5103_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="494" height="346"></a></p> <p>I had extra pieces from cutting too much, so I pieced another strip, and lined it up on the back so that the quilting would match both the front and the back seams.</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-2RBSmoD4ltc/UFqYRLbpHKI/AAAAAAAABYk/l1IdyTFmt5c/s1600-h/IMG_5112%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_5112" border="0" alt="IMG_5112" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-R08awTqKgI8/UFqYTC0phhI/AAAAAAAABYs/oA84ONjEp6k/IMG_5112_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="491" height="344"></a></p> <p>Wow, you can’t even tell in this photo, but the main print in the backing is the blue and yellow star-looking print from Heather Bailey’s Nicey Jane line.</p> <p>I really enjoyed making this little herringbone quilt. It came together very fast and easy, <a href="http://craftycupboard.blogspot.com/2012/05/quick-herringbone-quilt-tutorial.html" target="_blank">per Melanie’s tutorial</a> (doesn’t she have awesome tutorials?), though I mostly used it as a guideline instead of a rule, since I am incapable of following any directions exactly…</p> <p>Oh yeah, and I used this unfinished top for our monthly photo shoot 2 1/2 months ago (still at the old apartment!!):</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-FDN-M9jfC0Q/UFqYVzF7HyI/AAAAAAAABY0/vrCvplW91LE/s1600-h/IMG_4357%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_4357" border="0" alt="IMG_4357" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-vPkRn-etd3Q/UFqYWwb6HHI/AAAAAAAABY8/tmVSPDpV01o/IMG_4357_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="479" height="361"></a></p> <p>I have miraculously kept up with Jocelyn’s monthly picture, even if I haven’t posted one on here in forever! I keep using friends in-progress quilt tops (since I don’t have enough for a new one every month myself), and then I have to wait until I get those quilts done and to said friends so they don’t see it beforehand! Tee hee.</p> Kirstenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11844893008898885370noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6064077039636308847.post-36293010042409961652012-09-18T14:36:00.001-07:002012-09-18T14:36:34.970-07:00A Finished Custom Job<p>I finished this beautiful king-size duvet and pillowcase custom order just before Labor Day Weekend.</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-UhjT-ZcJASo/UFjpKv4qJdI/AAAAAAAABWE/UAjSy09QOgk/s1600-h/IMG_4844%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_4844" border="0" alt="IMG_4844" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-ZlmZJLIISBs/UFjpLAimbCI/AAAAAAAABWM/67k_qMa_YQU/IMG_4844_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="489" height="342"></a></p> <p>My bed is definitely NOT a king….so it’s a bit big :) And I wouldn’t normally put customer work on my bed, but this job was for one of my mom’s friends from work. ps- do you like my amazing gray walls? I should show you a before picture. It was a VERY gold tan…</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-S-dnFh27btg/UFjpMTWxaCI/AAAAAAAABWU/BCguZhuMLJw/s1600-h/IMG_4841%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_4841" border="0" alt="IMG_4841" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-17xYSLwxO78/UFjpMzF8xAI/AAAAAAAABWc/KxUtkGKodDk/IMG_4841_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="491" height="344"></a></p> <p>The fabric was absolutely GORGEOUS, and was super lightweight so it was great for a duvet! I backed the duvet with a sheet though, since the top was actually a last minute fabric change and I thought it was going to be heavier weight. Heavy fabric + duvet insert = a bed covering you never want to MOVE, let alone sleep under! And Target has some super super soft sheets that they sell individually, not as a sheet set, so it was perfect :)</p> <p>This order also included this awesome quilt:</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-Dy83uTRBOOE/UFjpPBjaduI/AAAAAAAABWk/wqKF-Sa3iDk/s1600-h/IMG_4847%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_4847" border="0" alt="IMG_4847" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-aSamec9XEPk/UFjpQMRvJWI/AAAAAAAABWs/NyQjRb4EFww/IMG_4847_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="493" height="345"></a></p> <p>I KNOW I say this about all the quilts I make, but I <strong>L O V E</strong> this quilt! It is about 60”x74”. Jen is a little taller than average, and was tired of blankets that would cover either her shoulders or her feet, but not both at the same time if she was stretched out, so she wanted a nice, long throw quilt. And oh is it nice! </p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-_hPKb7Oqjt4/UFjpSt9GVsI/AAAAAAAABW0/Y5nLQxhrKYs/s1600-h/IMG_4850%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_4850" border="0" alt="IMG_4850" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-dI9zGr_q2Fk/UFjpTrL9plI/AAAAAAAABW8/N7pnogA9phM/IMG_4850_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="494" height="346"></a></p> <p>I backed it in this navy print from Sweetwater’s Reunion line. Have you felt the softness of that fabric? If you haven’t you should! It is SOOOO SOFT!!! Add in mostly Sweetwater fabrics on the front, and I wanted to keep it. Or make an exact replica for me, either way.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-pY04VuV1fFY/UFjpVFyaD_I/AAAAAAAABXE/vjqTPdePld4/s1600-h/IMG_4852%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_4852" border="0" alt="IMG_4852" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-7tH0fwHxyPs/UFjpWF8bDpI/AAAAAAAABXM/4I55Qk6GaoA/IMG_4852_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="489" height="342"></a></p> <p>I quilted 1/4” away from the seams so that the chevron would repeat on the back. I also used navy thread in my bobbin so that it would stay subtle.</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-XJWucPCCWS4/UFjpXTDSfGI/AAAAAAAABXU/PDFPNHq-bRY/s1600-h/IMG_4856%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_4856" border="0" alt="IMG_4856" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-Ki0-Z-gWpHU/UFjpYCUXXVI/AAAAAAAABXc/JFoqNOpUXeo/IMG_4856_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="487" height="341"></a></p> <p>I also got to hand-deliver this, which was so much fun! It was a neat experience to watch a customer be so excited about and thrilled with something I had created.</p> <p>And since she said “This is MINE, my husband better keep his mitts off it!”, who knows, I might have to make another soon!</p> Kirstenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11844893008898885370noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6064077039636308847.post-85784042571058569372012-09-17T07:32:00.000-07:002012-09-17T07:32:00.717-07:00How often does this happen??<p>I figured out what to do with my small scraps before I even started cutting out the quilt the scraps would come from!
